You can't hurt me here, Mr. Vimes!
Because it's hard to keep a good man down. Haha.

Carcer is an utter sociopathic bastard, a walking Freudian Id with no discernible ego and a little skim of superego just strong enough to let him understand what gets under other people's skin the most. He's a killer and a liar and has no sense at all of proportion, being just as happy to murder someone for a five-dollar watch as for a hundred-dollar piece of jewelry. He's never once been known to admit to anything wrong- more importantly, he's never been known to acknowledge the possibility that something he did might be wrong. He's the sort who could cheerfully cut the throats of a man's wife and three children while he was out, pocket all of their money and small valuables, and still be capable of looking him in the eye and saying, "Who, me? What did I do?"
And he'd do it with their blood still on his hands and their jewelry sticking out of his pockets. And he'd tell the cops they were going to get in trouble for hurting him if they cuffed him too roughly- and then stick a knife in their kidneys while they hesitated, all without batting an eye.
Carcer appears in the book Night Watch, by Terry Pratchett, where he starts off by murdering a copper who was buying a pie. He only gets worse from there. In the end, Sam Vimes arrested him and saw him hanged. What a pity that on the Discworld, death isn't always all it's cracked up to be...
